Welcome to Term 2

 Week 1

Welcome back to another exciting term in Kindy.  It has been lovely to see all the children back at school and settling back into their routines.

ANZAC Day:

The children listened to a story about “ANZAC TED” and made poppies to wear when attending the ANZAC Day Assembly on Friday 23 April. They made a wreath with their Buddy Class and placed it at the base of the flag posts.

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn, remember and appreciate the importance of this national day and its role in building peace in our country today ..... "Lest we forget."

 Literacy:

This week we have been reviewing the sounds Ss, Aa, Tt, Pp, Ii and Nn as well as the numbers 1-5.

Our letter for next week is the ‘Mm’ phonic sound. We are focusing on the initial sound only, as in Mary and mop.

This term we are learning some new concepts, including syllables. Syllables are the parts of a word. We count syllables by touching our heads, shoulders and stomach. Eg. Ba-na-na = 1st syllable – touch head, 2nd syllable – touch shoulders and 3rd syllable – touch tummy.

We are also learning to read sight words. We have been looking at photos of ourselves and reading.  I am {name}. I am a boy/girl. Sight words covered this year are I, am, a, look. Our sight word for next week will be Mum.

 Numeracy:

Next week we are learning about the number 6. The children will continue focusing on the collection of dots on dice, without counting. They will also practise to orally count in order, starting at one and touch counting collections.

Mother’s Day:

Kindy children have started working on some special Mother’s Day projects. They are very excited about what they are creating! We would like all Mothers to drop off their children at school on Friday 7th May at 8:30am to share in a ‘surprise’ the students are planning for them!

We are looking forward to another busy and productive term.
