Term 3 Week 8

 Week 8

Thank you to all of the Dads, Grandads and other special family members for joining us for our short Father’s Day songs and gift presentation at the end of the day last week. The students and teachers loved having you at school and we hope that you all enjoyed a cup of tea, out of the especially designed mug made for you! We hope you had a wonderful Father’s Day and made the most of the sunshine on Sunday!

Literacy

Phonics: The sounds we have been learning this term are Ll, Gg, Bb, Ff, Ww. This week the students are learning the phonic short vowel sound Oo… for octopus, octagon and otter. Next week we will learn the short vowel sound Uu… for umbrella, up and under.

Our home corner is now an office, and the children are role playing skills required to work there. They have been having fun practising basic skills required for jobs in an office such as typing, filing, working on computers, answering phones, speaking politely with customers and handling office equipment!

Sight words: The new sight words learnt over the last two weeks are ‘we’ and ‘like’ e.g. We can see a dog.   I like school.

We have been learning how to construct a simple sentence using the sight words we know.

What is a sentence?

A sentence starts with a capital letter. A sentence has words. A sentence has ‘buddy’ spaces and ends with a full stop.

Your child will be happy to share their Kung Fu actions while reciting the above!

Show and Tell: Our news-telling has been progressing well. Please remember to prepare three facts about the sea creature your child will be talking about. We have learnt some very interesting facts about various sea creatures.

Amazing Facts: The sea turtle can hold it’s breath for up to 7 hours when sleeping.

Fish scales are used to make lipstick!

                          Octopus have three hearts!

Starfish can turn their tummies inside out!

Numeracy:

This term a major focus has been on measuring for our STEM project, which we will share with parents during our Learning Journeys in Week 10. Students will continue reviewing numbers 1 to 15 and building on their ability to identify, count and write these numbers.

Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and involvement in your child’s learning. Please speak to the teacher if you have any queries or concerns.
